One of the oldest kingdoms in Sarnaut, Kania is a society rooted in tradition and nobility. With the Church of Light acting as the moral compass for the people, most government decisions are made by a group of Kanians who come from noble birth. Life in Kania differs very little from generation to generation; even the war with the Xadaganians that began four millennia ago did little to change this. Instead, the Xadaganians’ incursion only created a lasting animosity and a determination to protect their way of life.
Known for their strong and stately looks, their kind disposition, and their desire for freedom and happiness, the Kanians are an honorable people who consider their faith to be of the utmost importance. With a love for nature and a desire to live in beautiful and open-aired lands, few cities exist in Kania. Instead there are numerous small villages spread throughout the meadows and birch groves of their allod. Extremely fond of physical activity and a healthy way of life, the Kanians are nearly a head taller than the Xadaganians.
Blessed with the ability to wield holy magic and call upon the powers of their deity, Kanians make dominant crusaders and clerics. Historically a rare pursuit, harnessing the flows of elemental magic has become a more common discipline amongst the Kanians, resulting in a number of powerful magicians. An ancient love and reverence of nature paves the way for Kanians to successfully harness the forces of nature magic, making their druids a powerful force with which to be reckoned. Agile, intuitive, and quick with a bow, Kanian rangers are a crucial part of the League Army. Strong, noble, and determined, a Kanian champion is a foe one would do best to avoid in battle if one wishes to survive.

Clerics are the devoted servants of the Church of Light. During peacetime their mission is to spread the teachings of the Church, as well as to help the sick and the feeble by using holy magic to heal. But when war comes, they fight side by side with the other defenders of the League. Nearly every military squad contains a cleric that provides healing and guidance to the troops. However, there are also special squads of clerics that use their skills in close combat to bring divine retribution to their enemies.
Kanians are not the most talented race in Sarnaut when it comes to magic. However, there are a few who possess an instinctive inclination to discover the secrets of the arcane. They typically become magicians, and from their ranks occasionally rise magnificent Great Mages. Because of their rarity, magicians are always elite troops in Kania. Their powers are used to suppress and decimate their enemies, while the rest of the army tries to protect them from any threats. Because of their abilities, they usually inspire awe and respect and frequently become military leaders.
Crusaders are devout followers of the Church of Light. They spend their days serving the Church, striving to be an example of courage and selflessness on the battlefield as well as in civilian life. They wield both holy magic as well as heavy weapons against the enemies of the Church. Because of their convictions, they are particularly remorseless fighters against demons and heretics, and they strive to protect Kania’s citizens from their tainted influences. For this reason, they served as the backbone of the armies that fought the demons in the Great Astral Campaign.
Rangers were one of the earliest types of fighters that appeared in Kania. Traditionally Kanian armies consisted of countless warriors on the front lines and even more rangers in the back that rained arrows down upon their enemies. Their role remains very similar, but today they are also used as spies that make stealthy intrusions into enemy territory, gathering information that could win their country wars. They are very fast, agile, and capable of adapting to any situation. Because of this, they are often looked to by the troops when quick decisions must be made.
The druids are an ancient order that originates from pagan traditions. To become a real druid, most initiates find a personal mentor and then spend many years as a hermit. Unlike most other fighters, druids do not join the military. They typically appear and disappear when they choose, appearing at critical moments that sway the tide of battle in their country’s favor. Once they have done what they set out to do, they vanish and move on. This led to many legends being built around them. “The druids are our last hope” is a phrase that League soldiers typically utter when the outcome of a battle is hanging by a thread.
The art of warfare has flowed in the blood of the Kanians ever since the war against the Orcs hundreds of years ago. The champions are the backbone of their army, and are capable of using almost every weapon to defeat their foes. Driven forward by their belief in justice and desire for freedom, they will fight any enemy that threatens their way of life. The friendly rivalry among their ranks leads every champion to strive to be the best fighter possible, and the result can be clearly seen on the battlefield.
